Stramonium – Thorn Apple

The mother tincture is prepared from the fresh flowering aerial parts of Datura stra- monium L., originally a native of the countries bordering the Black and Caspian Seas, now occurring widely in Europe, Asia and America. N.O. Solanaceae.

The main indications are:

Delirium. Talks, cries out and laughs incessantly. “Loquacious delirium.” Psy- choses during pregnancy. Hydrophobia. Delirium tremens, Korsakow’s psychosis in alcoholics. Epilepsy, holds the hand over the genitalia. Unbearable pains in gan- grene. Convulsions in whooping cough and infectious diseases, fever, influenza. Di- lated pupils in every affection. Children generally fearful, particularly of ghosts, and terrified at night-time. Can only sleep with a light on. Warm sweats. Typhoid fevers. The German Monograph-Preparation Commission for the Homoeopathic Field of Therapy has, under the Preparation Monograph for Datura stramonium, published the following indication(s) in the German Bundesanzeiger (German Federal Gazette) for stramonium: infections accompanied by high fever; spasmodic condi- tions; diseases accompanied by impairment of emotional and/or psychological func-

tions; inflammations of the eyes.
