Euphrasia – Eyebright

The mother tincture is prepared from the whole fresh plant in flower of Euphrasia stricta D. Wolf ex F.J. Lehm, E. rostkoviana Hayne and their hybrides. These plants are growing in grassy pastures and meadows in Europe. N.O. Scrophu- lariaceae.

The principal indications are:

Spasmodic photophobia, especially in daylight. Cutting pains and pressure in the eyes. Acute conjunctivitis, fluent coryza with lachrymation, chemosis, purulent dis- charge. Blepharitis. Corneal ulcer. Iritis.

Apart from diseases of the eyes, Euphrasia is also indicated in coryza with mas- sive discharge of mucus and swimming of the head; also in weakness of memory and difficulty in speaking.

The German Monograph-Preparation Commission for the Homoeopathic Field of Therapy has, under the Preparation Monograph for Euphrasia officinalis, published the following indication(s) in the German Bundesanzeiger (German Federal Gazette) for euphrasia: inflammations of the eyes; inflammations of the upper res- piratory passages.
