The attenuations of this nosode are prepared from sterilized cultures of the bacte- ria Listeria monocytogenes (10⁷CFU/g) which cause listeriosis. N.O. Corynebacte- riaceae.

Listeria are gram-positive, sporeless bacilli. They cause the widespread zoonosis, listeriosis, which is found in large anmals (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs) and is charac- terised by granulomatous meningoencephalitis. In small animals, (rodents, poultry), there is septicaemia manifesting in particular organs, e.g. granulomatosis in the liver, spleen, etc.

Although it is rare for the organism to be transmitted to humans, in adults there may be a general infection with meningoenephalitis, liver necrosis, or sore throat.

More rarley there may occur local conditions such as granulomatous keratocon- junctivitis, and in premature babies and neonates a form of septicaemia. Often there are miscarriages and still-births.

Thus indications are habitual miscarriages as well as the symptoms found in listerio- sis, particularly meningoencephalitis; also in the course of influenza (cerebral influen- za), other infections of a septic nature, throat-infections, keratoconjunctivitis, etc.

The attenuations are prepared from thioctic acid (a-lipoicum acidum), C₈H₁₄O₂S₂, MW: 206.33.

Thioctic acid (alpha lipoic acid) is an endogenous coenzyme involved in the trans- formation of pyruvic acid. It functions as the amide in the oxidized form in the transfer of the two carbon acetyl fragments that is the result of the decarboxylation of pyruvate from alpha hydroxyethylthiamin pyrophosphate to acetyl-CoA. It is present in yeast and liver extracts and is reportedly useful in the treatment of mush- room poisoning.

A proving of this substance was conducted in the summer and fall of 1993 by      Dr. David Riley.

Essential Characteristics

The most prominent symptoms of this remedy are strong sensations of heat, in- creased menstrual flow with gushing blood, forgetfulness, and the sensation of being giddy.

Forgetfulness. Giddy sensation as if on drugs. Mentally jittery. Sensation of heat. Buzzing sensation in the body. Mild headaches that seem chronic. Nasal congestion. Heavy menstrual flow with gushing, red blood. Restless sleep. Itching skin.

Mind

Aphthae worse from being in the sun.

Teeth

Sensitive to the cold.

Throat

Sore throat pain on the left side when swallowing. Tight sensation of the throat.

Stomach

Mild nausea.

Improvement of flatulence after eating. Full sensation. Cramping pain before menses.

Rectum

Constipation with straining at each stool.

Genitalia, Female

Copious menses. Bright red menstrual blood.

Respiration

Shortness of breath like it the breath can’t be caught.

Tenderness and swelling of the breasts.

Stitching back pain like needles.

Intense itching on the back of the hand worse from scratching and that makes falling asleep difficult. Perspiration of the hands and feet.

Recommended in spastic spinal paralysis, multiple sclerosis, myelitis, weakness and paralysis of the lower extremities, rheumatic paralyses, but in full-blown degen- eration phases it is too late for this remedy.
