Heel Dosage Recommendations for Children

Drops

Standard dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 3 drops 3 times daily.
  • 2 to 5 years: 5 drops 3 times daily.
  • 6 to 11 years: 7 drops 3 times daily.

Acute or initial dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 3 drops every half to 1 hour, up to 12 times daily, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 2 to 5 years: 5 drops every half to 1 hour, up to 12 times daily, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 6 to 11 years: 7 drops every half to 1 hour, up to 12 times daily, and then continue with standard dosage.

Method of administration: This medicine should be taken away from meals. For children, add drops to a small amount of water.


Eye Drops (Monodoses)

Standard dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 1 to 2 drops 4 times daily as directed (consult a health care professional before use).
  • Children 2 years and older: 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s) 4 times daily, or more often if needed.

Monodoses for Oral Use

Standard dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 6 drops 3 times daily.
  • 2 to 5 years: 9 drops 3 times daily.
  • 6 to 11 years: 12 drops 3 times daily.

Acute or initial dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 6 drops every half to 1 hour, up to 12 times daily.
  • 2 to 5 years: 9 drops every half to 1 hour, up to 12 times daily.
  • 6 to 11 years: 12 drops every half to 1 hour, up to 12 times daily.

Instil the prescribed number of drops preferably under the tongue.


Mouth and Throat Spray

Standard dosage:

  • Below 6 years: Consult a health care professional.
  • 6 to 11 years: 1 spray 3 to 5 times daily, up to 8 times daily, if needed.

Nasal Spray

Standard dosage:

  • 2 to 5 years: 1 spray into each nostril 3 to 5 times daily.
  • 6 to 11 years: 1 to 2 sprays into each nostril 3 to 5 times daily.

Acute or initial dosage:

  • 2 to 5 years: 1 spray into each nostril every half to 1 hour for the first day up to 5 times, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 6 to 11 years: 1 to 2 sprays into each nostril every half to 1 hour for the first day up to 8 times, and then continue with standard dosage.

Solution for Injection

Standard dosage:

  • 2 to 5 years: Half an ampoule 1 to 3 times weekly.
  • 6 to 11 years: Two thirds of an ampoule 1 to 3 times weekly.

Acute or initial dosage:

  • 2 to 5 years: Half an ampoule daily, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 6 to 11 years: Two thirds of an ampoule daily, and then continue with standard dosage.

Method of administration: The injection solution may be administered subcutaneously, intradermally, intramuscularly, or intravenously.


Suppositories (1.1 g)

Standard dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 1 suppository up to 2 times daily.
  • 2 to 5 years: 1 suppository up to 3 times daily.
  • 6 to 11 years: 1 suppository up to 4 times daily.

Acute or initial dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 1 suppository every 2 hours up to 4 times, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 2 to 5 years: 1 suppository every 2 hours up to 6 times, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 6 to 11 years: 1 suppository every 2 hours up to 8 times, and then continue with standard dosage.

Insert suppository into the rectum.


Suppositories (2 g)

Standard dosage:

  • 6 to 11 years: 1 suppository 2 times daily.

Acute or initial dosage:

  • 6 to 11 years: 1 suppository every 2 hours up to 4 times daily, and then continue with standard dosage.

Insert suppository into the rectum.


Tablets

Standard dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 1 tablet once daily.
  • 2 to 5 years: 1 tablet 1 to 2 times daily.
  • 6 to 11 years: 1 tablet 2 times daily.

Acute or initial dosage:

  • Below 2 years: 1 tablet every 1 to 2 hours, up to 4 times daily, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 2 to 5 years: 1 tablet every 1 to 2 hours, up to 6 times daily, and then continue with standard dosage.
  • 6 to 11 years: 1 tablet every 1 to 2 hours, up to 8 times daily, and then continue with standard dosage.

Method of administration: Preferably allow the tablet to dissolve in the mouth, and then swallow. For children it is possible to crush the tablet and add to a small amount of water. This medicine should be taken away from meals.


Topicals

Standard dosage:

  • Children below 2 years and older: Apply 2 times daily, or more often if needed.
