Echinacea (angustifolia) (Sampson Root)

Echinacea (angustifolia) (Sampson Root)

Numerous studies confirm Echinacea’s ability to increase the capacity of the body’s own defense system. Acts stimulating on the defense of the organism against bacterial germs, thus being used mainly in septic and infectious conditions. Its action includes boosting the phagocytotic capacity of the leukocytes as well as raising the activity of the mononuclear phagocytic system (earlier RES). In this manner, pathogenic agents, foreign bodies, tissue debris, etc. may be eliminated with greater speed. Mesenchymal (and thus fibroblastic) activation provides for more effective bordering-off of inflamma- tory processes, thus positively affecting purulent affections under threat of becoming septic or gangrenous. Echinacea is also utilised in cases of latent or chronic infection as an alterant and in stimulation therapy. Other symptoms are great tenderness of the joints and limbs. Swollen lymph nodes. Fever and increased number of leukocytes. Reduced pulse-rate and general symptoms of exhaustion. Aggravation at night and after physical work. Amelioration at rest. Especially indicated in combination with Lachesis and Pyrogenium in cases of mastitis and puerperal fever.
